The American Board of Surgery (ABS®) is the certifying board for general surgery and related specialties in the United States. Its examinations include the General Surgery Qualifying Exam and the Continuous Certification Assessment.
FMH® is the designation of the Swiss Medical Association (Foederatio Medicorum Helveticorum). Swiss specialist titles are awarded by the Swiss Institute for Postgraduate and Continuing Medical Education (SIWF®). The written final examination (Schlussprüfung, Part 1) and the intermediate examination in anatomy and orthopaedic surgical approaches (Zwischenprüfung Anatomie & orthopädische Zugangswege) for the specialist title in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System are part of the SIWF postgraduate training programme, in which swiss orthopaedics is also involved.
