As surgical education increasingly combines practical training with digital learning, AUGMEDI is helping residents connect anatomical knowledge with hands-on application. As part of the Resident Curriculum 2026 at OR-X, AUGMEDI was integrated into the learning environment to support residents preparing for the anterior and anterolateral approaches to the hip.
On August 25, the Resident Curriculum 2026 at OR-X focused on the anterior and anterolateral approaches to the hip — combining structured anatomical learning with guided hands-on training on specimens.
Designed to support orthopedic residents in their preparation for the board examination, the course covered key surgical steps, anatomical landmarks, and the safe handling of surrounding soft tissue and neurovascular structures.
As part of the course, participants received access to the AUGMEDI E-Learning platform, bringing photorealistic 3D anatomy and AI-supported learning into the training experience.
The anterior and anterolateral approaches were integrated directly into the learning environment, allowing residents to explore the relevant anatomy and develop a spatial understanding of the surgical access before applying it in hands-on training.
This is where we see the value of digital anatomy: not replacing practical training, but strengthening the anatomical foundation behind it.
The course was led by faculty from Balgrist University Hospital, including Prof. Dr. med. Patrick Zingg, PD Dr. med. Armando Hoch, PD Dr. med. Dimitris Dimitriou, PD Dr. med. Dominik Kaiser and Dr. Octavian Andronic. The curriculum awards up to 20 CME credits upon completion of the required courses.
